TAN

Shaun Tan, the renowned illustrator and writer, was born in 1974 in Fremantle and grew up in Perth, Western Australia. He studied Fine Arts and English Literature. As a teenager, he began creating illustrations based on science fiction and horror stories for small-circulation magazines.

He became internationally known for his illustrated books that explore social, political, and historical themes through a surreal and dreamlike visual style. His works, including Tales from Outer Suburbia, The Rabbits, The Red Tree, The Lost Thing, and The Arrival, have been translated across Europe, Asia, and South America and are enjoyed by readers of all ages.

Shaun Tan has also worked as a theatre set designer and contributed to film production, including Pixar’s WALL·E. In 2011, he was awarded the prestigious Astrid Lindgren Memorial Award for his overall contribution to children’s literature, among numerous other major international distinctions.
