Walter M. Miller Jr., the notable science fiction author, was born in New Smyrna, Florida, USA, in 1922.
He studied engineering, served in the United States Air Force during World War II, and after the war continued his studies at the University of Texas.
After a car accident that left him almost incapacitated, he began writing.
In total, Walter M. Miller Jr. wrote 42 short stories, novellas, and novels. Although relatively sparse in output, he had a profound influence on the genre due to the quality of his writing, its intellectual depth, and especially his careful psychological portrayal of characters.
His well-known works include The Secret of the Death Dome, There’s Someone Else Like Me, Blood Bank, Darthsteller, and A Canticle for Leibowitz.
