In this book we will find ourselves close to traditional folk musicians who come to play and bring joy to the celebration held after a village wedding. The clarinet, lute, lyra, daouli, tambourine, santouri, violin, and other folk instruments enliven the guests. We too are invited to this popular musical celebration, this musical festival.
The Festival belongs to the series Sound-Images.
Thanasis Exarchopoulos studied painting at the Athens School of Fine Arts. At the same institution, he was elected Professor of Printmaking in 1982 and directed the School’s Printmaking Workshop.
He has participated in group exhibitions in Greece and abroad and has organized solo exhibitions of painting and printmaking in Athens.
He is a co-creator, together with Mariora Exarchopoulou, of two series of children’s books for preschool and school-age children.
The first series, titled “Sound Images”, includes At the Zoo, The Journey of Water, The Owl, The Fair, Balonis, The Goldfish, The Mouse and Her Daughter, and The Orchestra. It is distinguished by its originality and is considered a landmark in Greek children’s literature.
The second series, known as “Iconography”, consists of The Measurement of Time and Lines, Shapes, Colours. These books are intended for older children.
Images and sound give the child the fascination of the imaginary, the poetry of the fairy tale, helping them, through the play of surprise and magic, to reach information and knowledge.
The illustrated book is accompanied by a CD. The narration heard from the CD is divided into as many parts as there are images in the book. Each time the narration stops and only music is heard, the child should look at the next image.
