THE TIME SHIPS

,

At the end of the nineteenth century Herbert George Wells wrote a landmark book in the field of science fiction: the well-known Time Machine. One hundred years later, the famous contemporary author Stephen Baxter (The Time Odyssey, published by Aiolos) writes a sequel to the adventures of the protagonist scientist, this time based on recent scientific discoveries in physics, astrophysics and quantum mechanics. Time Ships is a two-volume action-packed novel that takes the reader to the very edge of space and time.

First volume

In this volume, the hero will once again travel into the future, only to discover that it has changed because of his intervention in the evolution of history. The brutish Morlocks he encountered on his first journey have given way to a species that dominates the solar system and has enclosed the sun itself in a vast, inhabited sphere! His adventures will continue in a 1938 parallel to our own, where the First World War is still going on and has turned Europe into a bizarre underground and nightmarish world.

Second volume

In this volume, the second and final volume of the work, H.G. Wells and Baxter’s traveler will return to the Paleocene Period, thus triggering a new, parallel history for humanity that begins thirty million years before the normal appearance of man on Earth. From there, the Time Machine will transport him to a future dominated by traction machines, and then lead him on the greatest undertaking ever conceived by the mind: returning to the beginning of the very creation of the universe, and back even further.
