What is the use of Philosophy? What should its role be in Education? We are used to the idea that science solves problems and answers many of our questions. Some questions, however, remain unanswered; no solution to them seems to be definitive. They accompany us throughout our lives and are repeated in each generation. They are the questions concerning death, truth, the universe, freedom, justice, beauty, time… The aim of Philosophy is not to provide a definitive answer to them, but teach us how to ask them in a more comprehensive and constructive manner each time, while proposing attractive answers that help us live with them in a rational way. Because it is better to keep the “big” questions open than rush and provide “small” answers. This book aspires to be a kind of basic “initiation” into philosophical thought, for the use of both those who approach Philosophy for the first time in the field of education, and those who, at any age, are interested in getting to know the foundations of this intellectual tradition.
