FIRST MEN IN THE MOON

,

Penniless businessman Mr Bedford retreats to the Kent coast to write a play, in which he has invested all his hopes of solving his financial difficulties. There he meets by chance Dr. Cavor, an eccentric but brilliant scientist who engages in experiments to develop a  material that blocks gravity Pretty soon, Cavor succeeds and announces to Bedford that his invention makes possible one of humanity’s oldest dreams: a journey to the moon.

With Bedford motivated by his thirst for wealth and Cavor by his desire for knowledge, they embark together on their daring journey. However, neither of them is  prepared for what awaits them there, where they may become trapped forever.

A classic science fiction novel, written at the end of the Victorian period by the master of the genre Herbert George Wells, when the journey to the moon was still nothing but wishful thinking. Wells chooses to base another of his “exercises in fantasy” on the idea of conquering the moon, thus creating an exciting adventure full of unexpected events, humor and symbolism.
