TRIGONOMETRY IN ANCIENT GREECE

Trigonometry, perhaps the most exceptional offspring of Mother Geometry, is the product of the special relationship of the ancient Greek geometers with angles, the ratios of sizes and methods of approximation.

It was developed as flat and spherical, and thus served the mathematical arts of geodesy and astronomy. A wonderful part of the all-mother Geometry, it had Eudoxus, Archimedes and Hipparchus as its protagonists and servants. Servants like us who have gathered in this work a multitude of testimonies and applications from Greek antiquity, so as to honor it, for the first time, and at the same time to present a small picture of the torturous course of ancient Greek Geometry.
