CHILDREN OF HURIN

There are tales of Middle-earth that speak of times long before the Lord of the Rings. Such is the story in this book, set in the great land beyond the Grey Havens in the West, in areas once traversed by Treebeard, which were later flooded in the great cataclysm that marked the end of the First Age of the World. In those distant times, Morgoth, the Dark Lord, lived in the vast fortress of Angband, the Hell of Iron in the North. And the tragedy of Turin and his sister Nienor takes place under the shadow of Angband’s fear and Morgoth’s war against the Elves.

Their short and passionate lives are defined by the abysmal hatred that Morgoth harbored against them for being the children of Hurin, the man who dared to defy and mock him to his face. He sends against them his most fearsome servant, Glaurung, a powerful spirit in the form of a huge, flightless dragon that spews forth flames. The Dark Lord and the Dragon pursue their goals in an age of brutality and destruction, full of hideouts, persecution, and desperate attempts at resistance. Ruthless and powerful, Glaurung sealed the fate of Turin and Nienor through deceit and malicious lies, thus fulfilling the curse of Morgoth.
